Reset the phone

Support for Windows Phone 8.1 has ended.

Microsoft has stopped giving technical support to Windows 8.1 on July 11, 2017. This change has affected its software updates and security options.

What it means to you




If you restore your Windows Phone, it will return to the state it had when you first turned it on. All your personal content will be erased and the phone will have the factory settings again.

If you decide to reset your phone, you can pre-backup apps, text messages, photos and more in your Microsoft cloud account.


Warning
Be cautious. If you reset your phone, all the content stored on your phone, including applications and games (along with application data and game progress), text messages, call history, music, will be deleted. the photos, etc.

To reset the phone
In the list of applications, click Settings Settings Icon.

Click on About and then on Reset the phone.

Two warnings will appear. If you are completely sure you want to restore the phone to its factory settings, click Yes and then Yes again.

It may take a moment for the process to complete.

To reset a phone that does not respond
If the phone does not respond and you can not access the Settings Icon Settings, you may be able to reset using the hardware buttons. On Lumia phones (and some others), follow these steps to reset your phone:

Press and hold the Volume Down Icon Volume Down and Power Button Icon Start / Stop buttons at the same time, until you feel a vibration (around 10-15 seconds).

When you notice the vibration, release the buttons and immediately afterwards hold the Volume Down Icon Volume Down button until a large exclamation mark appears.

When the exclamation point appears, press the following four buttons in this order: Volume Up, Volume Up Icon, Volume Down, Volume Down Icon, Power Button Icon, Volume Down Icon. Now the phone should be reset and restarted. (It may take a moment for the process to finish).
